Land Dispute: Man injured in clash, dies
A man, who sustained severe injuries during a clash between two rival groups of villagers allegedly over a disputed land in Baliadangi upazila on Tuesday, died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) yesterday.
The deceased, Islam Uddin, 55, son of Budhu Mohammad, was a resident of Paria Machkhuria village in the upazila.
Meanwhile, 11 other injured in the clash, including Islam's wife Jahanara Begum, 40, daughter Asma Jahan, 14, brother Dabirul Islam, 54, and Delwar Hossain, 27, Sadekul Islam, 32, and Nur Alam, 27, are now undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Baliadangi Police Station Habibul Haque Prodhan said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Islam and one Abdul Jabbar of the village over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.
As a sequel, supporters of Islam and Jabbar locked in a quarrel over the issue on Tuesday. At one stage, both the groups attacked each other with sharp weapons, triggering a fierce clash that left 12 people including Islam injured.
Family members and relatives rescued injured Islam and took him to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to RMCH the same night.
He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment there yesterday morning.
Preparation for filing of a case in this regard was underway, the OC added.
