Joypurhat sees rise of diarrhoea patients
Joypurhat Modern Hospital has been witnessing an unusual rise in diarrhoea patients in the last 10 days due to temperature fluctuations.
Around 400 patients of different upazilas in Joypurhat have been admitted to the hospital during the time. Around 80 percent of them are children.
The temperature is now fluctuating rapidly, with colder nights and considerably warmer days.
Inhabitants in the district, especially children and elderly people, are being infected with either diarrhoea or pneumonia due to the unusually warm and cold weather, said Dr Saiful Islam, resident medical officer (RMO) of Joypurhat Modern Hospital.
The doctor advised all to take fresh foods in this situation.
Mousumi, mother of two-and-a-half-year old Md Abdullah at Sorail village in Kalai upazila of the district, said she admitted her son to Kalai Upazila Health Complex a couple of days ago as he started vomiting with dysentery.
As his condition was worsening, he was shifted to Joypurhat Modern Hospital on Monday, said the mother, adding that her son's condition has improved now.
Boby Akter of Tazpur village in Sadar upazila said as the number of patients sees sharp rise, many of them are staying on the floor due to shortage of bed at the hospital.
"I tried a lot, but failed to arrange a bed", said Boby.
On Tuesday, the number of patients has doubled against the capacity of 25-bed at the diarrhoea ward of the hospital, according to the officials of the hospital.
RMO Saiful Islam said they witnessed a sharp rise of diarrhea patients in the last 10 days due to the massive gap between day and night temperatures.
He hopes the situation will improve within a couple of weeks.
