Journalist kills self

A journalist committed suicide out of frustration by hanging himself at his residence in Jashore town yesterday.

The deceased was Daniel Habib Nova Khandaker, 45, son of Ahsan Habib in Bezpara Cemetery area of the town.

“Nova went to mosque to say the Fajar prayers this morning. After returning home, he took his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of a room around 7:30pm,” said his father Ahsan Habib.

He was suffering from frustration due to unemployment for long, family members said.

“Nova's wife Shampa worked at a microfinance company in Pabna. Their seven-year-old son Najjar Habib also lives with her there,” said Ahsan Habib.

Once working at Jashore-based daily Loksamaj, Nova Khandaker was former office secretary of Journalist Union, Jashore.
