Inspector Mamun murder: Charges pressed against 10
Detectives today pressed charges against 10 people in connection with a case filed against them over the killing of Special Branch (SB) Inspector Mamun Islam Khan in July last year.
The accused are: victim’s friend Rahmat Ullah, Rabiul Islam, his wife Suraiya Akhter Keya, Swapan Sarkar, Didar Pathan, Mizan Sheikh, Atiq Hassan, Sarwar Hossain, Meherunnisa alias Swarna and Faria binte Maisa.
All the accused were earlier arrested on different dates from different places and they are now in jail.
DB Inspector Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman and also the investigation officer of the case submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.
According to the prosecution, it was alleged that Inspector Mamun, 38, went out of his Sabujbagh residence on July 7 of 2018 and did not return. His cell phone was found switched off.
His elder brother Jahangir Alam Khan then filed a general diary with the Sabujbag Police Station the next day.
After receiving the missing person complaint, DB police started investigating the matter and detained Rahmat first as a suspect.
Later, DB officials came to know from Rahmat that he and his cohorts had killed Mamun and left his burnt body in Gazipur.
In the meantime, local police in Gazipur had recovered a charred body from the district's Kaliganj upazila on July 9.
Based on Rahmat’s information, DB police contacted the local police who confirmed they had found a body. The victim's elder brother then identified the body to be Mamun's.
Later, a murder case was filed with Banani police station regarding the incident.
The criminals trapped Mamun by calling him to a residence in Banani on the pretense of celebrating a model's birthday.There, they killed him.
