Illegal drug dealer gets life term RI
A court here yesterday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in connection with a case filed with Shibganj Police Station under Narcotics Control Act in 2016.
The convict, Saidur Rahman, 58, son of Moslem Morol, is a resident of Uttar Chandpur village in Shibganj upazila.
Chapainawabganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Ali also fined the convict Tk 50,000. In default, he is to suffer three years more in prison.
According to the prosecution, acting on a tip-off, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-5) raided Saidur's house on March 12 in 2016 and recovered 1984 bottles of banned Indian Phensidyl syrup from a cowshed at the house.
They detained Saidur from the spot and filed a case with Shibganj Police Station against him the following day.
After investigation, Sub Inspector Hafizur Rahman of the police station pressed charges against Saidur on May 31 the same year.
