Ilias Kanchan today filed a 100-crore defamation case against former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan.
The case was filed with the court of Dhaka's First Joint District Judge Utpal Bhattchrjee this noon. The court will fix tomorrow to deliberate whether it would accept the case or not.
In his complaint, Ilias Kanchan stated that Shahjahan Khan, at a programme in Narayanganj earlier on December 8, said Ilias had accumulated a huge amount of money.
According to the case statement, Shahjahan said he would make public how much money Ilias received and for what purpose, and also how much money he took for himself and in the name of his son and daughter-in-law.
Shahjahan's comments at the time were published in different media, it said.
Such comments damaged Ilias' reputation, name and fame nationally and internationally, Ilias Kanchan said.
On December 11, he had urged Shahjahan Khan to withdraw his comment, but this was not heeded to, the case statement read.
