HRPB appeals to PM seeking fund of Tk 300 crore for junior lawyers
Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), a rights organisation, today appealed to the prime minister to make a stimulus package of Tk 300 crore for junior lawyers across the country who rely on the court to function for their income.
Now that the court functions are closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, the junior lawyers cannot earn money, Advocate Manzill Murshid, president of HRPB, said in his appeal to the PM.
Murshid sent the appeal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through Awami League leader and Prime Minister's Assistance Barrister Biplob Barua.
Murshid said in the appeal that a large number of lawyers among 5,500 lawyers across the country are juniors.
The junior lawyers run their families by the payment given to them by senior lawyers when the court functions are on.
Murshid also said a fund needs to be created for the junior lawyers.
