Housewife receives death threat from dowry-greedy husband
A woman has continued receiving death threat from her dowry-greedy husband to withdraw a case filed against him with a Jamalpur court on October 13.
The accused is Nurul Islam Miah, 52, computer operator of Jamalpur Nursing Institute, and son of Ahmmad Ali of Chamuria village in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila.
Victim Sanjida Aktar, 23, wife of Nurul Islam, lodged a general diary with Sadar Police Station seeking safety on October 23.
Nurul Islam got acquainted with Sanjida, daughter of Jamal Uddin of Jamalpur municipality, in 2016 when she admitted her ailing mother to Jamalpur General Hospital. At the time, Sanjida was a second year HSC student.
Later, Nurul developed a relationship with Sanjida and got married in December 2017.
Before the wedding, Nurul concealed that he had another wife, an adult son and a young daughter, Sanjida said.
A few months after the marriage, Nurul started putting pressure on Sanjida for dowry and threatened her saying that he would make abortion of her pregnancy if she failed to bring Tk 3 lakh from her father, said the victim.
Finding no other way, she brought Tk 1.5 lakh from her parents in March 2018.
But Nurul continued torturing her physically and mentally for the rest of the amount, she further said.
The husband took her to a local maternity care centre in the name of giving her treatment in April 2018 when she was three months pregnant and she was aborted there forcefully.
“In June the same year, I had to give Nurul Tk 1.5 lakh to avert further torture on me” said Sanjida.
In August this year, Nurul began to torture her over trifling family matters. Recently, he stopped providing her with food and clothes and demanded Tk 5 lakh as dowry.
As she declined, she was beaten and sent to her parents’ house, according to the case statement.
On October 13, Sanjida filed a dowry case accusing Nurul with the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court that issued arrest warrant against the accused the same day.
On October 21, Nurul got bail from the court.
The following day, Nurul along with his men swooped on Sanjida’s business shop in Jamalpur town and threatened her with dire consequences, she said, adding that Nurul also threatened to abduct her.
Salemuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said police will take legal measures against the accused if he further gives threat to Sanjida.
