Housewife raped by father-in-law for 5 months in Bogura, culprit held
Police today arrested a man in a case filed against him for raping his daughter-in-law multiple times over a five-month period in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura.
The arrestee, Md Abdul Momin, 40, has confessed to the crime, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting police.
According to the case statement, the nineteen-year-old victim, hailing from Noakhali, got married to Momin’s son eight months ago against the family’s wishes. She then moved to her husband’s house in the upazila.
The culprit, Momin, locally known asa ‘kabiraj’ or a herbal medicine practitioner, told her that he was under the influence of a ‘jinn’ (supernatural forces) and she would have to be physically involved with him to appease the ‘ghost’ and solve issues with her parents, Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia Police Station, said quoting the case statement.
Over the last five months, Momin raped his daughter-in-law many times until she protested. He then threatened to kill her if she informed her husband. Momin, however, raped her again on the morning of February 4.
That night, the girl told her husband, after which they left the home and took shelter at a relative’s house. The victim then filed a case against Momin with the police station at 6:00pm today, before police arrested the accused from his home, the OC added.
The victim will be sent for medical tests to Bogura Shaheen Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital and the accused will be produced before court for statement, said Shafiqur Rahman, investigation officer of the case and also a sub-inspector of the police station.
4 jailed in Gazipur over gang-rape of girl
A Gazipur court today sent four men to jail in a case filed over gang-rape of a girl on Friday night at Cherag Ali area of Tongi.
The accused were identified as: Nayan, 18 of Munshiganj; Shahab Uddin, 20, of Barishal; Babu Mandal, 20, of Jamalpur; and Tofazzal, 19, of Mymensingh. All of them are truck drivers by profession, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
The victim, who lives in Miraspara of Arichpur area and works at a beauty parlour at Bharan area of Tongi, was returning from a wedding programme with her brother in Cherag Ali area on an autorickshaw, her family said.
The four accused intercepted the auto-rickshaw at Haque intersection and tied up the brother and took the girl to a truck and then took turns raping her, Md Jahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station, said quoting the case statement.
The auto-rickshaw driver managed to flee the scene and rushed to Tongi Police Station. There, he informed police about the matter.
The law enforcers then rushed to the spot and rescued the girl and her brother, the OC said.
Police then conducted raids at different points in the area based on information provided by the girl and arrested the four accused, the OC also said.
The girl’s father filed a case with Tongi Police Station today accusing the four men in this connection, he added.
