Housewife among 3 killed
Three people, including a housewife, were killed in Gopalganj, Kushtia and Netrakona yesterday and on Friday night, report our correspondents.
Our Faridpur correspondent reported that an elderly man was stabbed to death allegedly over a trifling matter in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Friday night.
The deceased, Badal Sardar, 60, son of Fukku Sardar of Bhojarghati village, was a private car driver.
Natun Sardar, a member of Kati Union Parishad (UP) said Badal donated Tk 5 to a local mosque on May 10 and later one Chabar Sardar of the village took away the money from the donation box, which triggered an altercation between the two on Friday.
As a sequel to conflict, Chabar and his two sons Hamim Sardar and Shamim Sardar attacked Badal with sharp weapons around 8:30pm.
Locals took critically injured Badal to Gopalganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him death around 9:30pm.
Officer in Charge of Sadar Police Station Monirul Islam said they detained two people for interrogation.
In Kushtia, unidentified criminals stabbed a youth to death in Mirpur upazila on Friday night.
The victim, Mizanur Rahman of Gaibandha, used to work at a local Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Kushtia town.
Abul Kalam, officer in charge of Mirpur Police Station, said locals spotted Mizan’s body in a paddy field around 10.30am and informed police.
Mizan went out of his office for Mirpur on Friday afternoon and remained missing since then, the OC said, adding that they recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
Any clue was unearthed behind the killing, OC said.
A case was filed with Mirpur police station.
Away in Mymensingh, a woman was killed allegedly by one of her neighbours in Satpai Railway Colony area in Netrakona town early yesterday.
The deceased, Shahinoor Begum, 28, was wife of Abdus Salam of the area.
Quoting the victim’s family members and neighbours, police said Shahinoor had a feud with her neighbour Sohel Mia, a day labourer, over different issues.
As a sequel, Sohel and his men locked in an altercation with Shahinoor around 3:00am and at one stage, they stabbed her indiscriminately with a knife, leaving her critically injured.
She was taken to Netrakona General Hospital where the doctors declared her dead, Officer in Charge (OC) of Netrakona Model Police Station Tajul Islam said.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for autopsy, the OC said, adding that they have so far arrested eight people, including Sohel, for their alleged involvement in the murder.
