Hospital vandalised over patient’s death
Angry family members and relatives went on a rampage at private hospital in Patuakhali town on Wednesday night following the death of a patient due to alleged wrong treatment.
The deceased, Irin Akhter Munni, 21, mother of a four-year-old daughter, was wife of Ali Ahmed of Chaurasta area in the town.
Deceased's father Nurul Amin said Munni was admitted to Sharif Hossain-Sonabanu Specialized Hospital with severe pain in her stomach on Wednesday afternoon.
Staffers immediately took her to the Operation Theatre (OT), where on duty doctors pushed her an injection without conducting any medical test, he alleged.
After couple of hours, as her condition was worsening, they applied the same injection again but my daughter died inside the OT around 10:45pm, he added.
Being angered by the incident, Munni's family members and relatives went on a rampage and vandalised the hospital the same night.
Protesters also confined two on-duty doctors of the hospital to a room for over two hours.
On information, police went to the spot, brought the situation under control and rescued the two doctors from their confinement.
Victim's mother Mahinur Begum said,"My daughter died due to negligence of the doctors and I want proper justice in this regard."
When contacted, one of the doctors ATM Nasir Uddin said there was no negligence and irregularities in treating the patient.
Police sent the body to Patuakhali General Hospital for autopsy yesterday morning.
Patuakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mainul Hasan said they will take legal action if a complaint is lodged in this regard.
