HC wants info on govt steps against mob beating
The High Court today asked the government to inform what steps it has taken against the incidents of mob beating and its perpetrators.
The home secretary and the inspector general of police have been asked to submit separate reports to the court by November 28.
It also issued a rule asking the government to explain why its failure to protect Taslima Begum Ranu and others who were killed in mob beatings on different dates in July should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order and issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Ishrat Hasan seeking necessary orders regarding the issue.
She submitted the petition to the High Court today seeking its rule on the government to explain its failure to protect the victims of the incidents of mob beating.
