HC seeks ACC probe report on Jaha Alam by May 2
The High Court today sought Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) probe report on Jaha Alam who wrongly suffered imprisonment for three years.
The ACC will have to submit the report before the HC by May 2, according to the order.
While hearing a suo moto rule, the High Court asked ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan to submit the progress report if the probe committee cannot complete the investigation by May 2.
Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told the court that a committee formed by the ACC is conducting the probe into the incident of Jaha alam but the committee is yet to submit the report to the commission.
The court then said it would look into who are responsible for the imprisonment of Jaha Alam.
The High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader fixed May 2 for further hearing on this issue.
Meanwhile, Jaha Alam, who was released from jail on February 4, appeared before the High Court bench for placing his statement in the morning as per its April 10 order.
But the judges did not hear his statement as the relevant file of the case was not produced before the bench.
A court official informed the judges that the file of the case is still pending before another High Court bench. Advocate Amit Das Gupta appeared before the court for Jaha Alam.
The High Court on April 10 asked Jaha Alam to appear before it today (April 17) for his statement about his sufferings in jail and to know how he is doing now.
Jaha Alam was wrongly imprisoned for three years because of an identity mess-up. He got released on February 4, following a HC order.
