Gurudaspur UNO and OC withdrawn
The upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Gurudaspur and the officer in charge (OC) of the police station concerned in Natore were withdrawn yesterday, following instructions from the Election Commission.
Jahidul Islam, Awami League nominated candidate for the upazila chairman post, recently filed a written complaint, alleging that Gurudaspur UNO Md Monir Hossain and OC Md Selim Reza were working in favour of opposition activists ahead of the election, said Mohammad Rahim Hossain, returning officer of Gurudaspur Upazila Election.
The Returning Officer earlier forwarded a letter from the Election Commission, which asked the district administration to implement the withdrawal order in three days.
Natore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahreaz confirmed the withdrawal of the two upazila officials.
Upazila chairman candidate Jahidul Islam said, “The UNO and the OC were participating in different programmes along with a local political leader and helping a few independent candidates, violating the election rules. And so, I submitted a complaint to the EC,”
"I am very happy that the EC has taken action to conduct a free and credible election,” he added.
The election to Gurudaspur upazila parishad is scheduled to be held on March 10.
