‘Govt will outsource services from pvt sectors’
The government is forming a policy to outsource government services from private sectors to bring down expenditure, said top officials today.
“The government is now delivering about 54 services and most of the services will be outsourced which will boost efficiency and reduce state expenditure,” said Parthapratim Deb, executive director of Bangladesh Computer Council.
He was speaking in a seminar titled ‘Government process Outsourcing: Steps Forward’ at fourth business process outsourcing (BPO) summit.
The Directorate of ICT (DoICT) under the Information Communication Technology Division in association with the Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing (BACCO) is organising the two-day event at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel.
ICT Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed Joy has inaugurated the event this morning.
Attending the seminar cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said already some government service has been outsourced and they are running very efficiently like the Hazz management.
“Here in this issue government officials’ mindset-up is an issue and private sector needs to work to sensitize the officials with digital services,” said Alam.
He said if even government can outsource the land management that will give a huge relief of the citizens’ life and government also can ensure transparency here.
Experts from the sector said if government opens the services to outsourcing industry it will undoubtedly reduce corruption and cost of offering services.
Habibullah N Karim, chief executive officer of Technohaven Co. Ltd and former president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) moderated the event where other industry stakeholders also speak.
The two-day event is organized with a view to presenting the local and international markets' prospects before the country's digital industry, where some 40 local and 20 international analysts are attending the BPO Summit.
Earlier after inaugurating the event several thousands of student and youth gathered in the hotel and took part in different seminars.
The government has targeted to earn $1 billion from the BPO sector by 2021 which is now about $300 million and end of 2018, the industry had employed about 45,000, which they are targeting to reach 1 lakh by 2021, said Wahidur Rahman Sharif, president of the BACCO.
