Govt releasing 17 prisoners ahead of Eid
The government is releasing 17 prisoners, who were serving time for minor offences, ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Some of them were released today while the rest will be released tomorrow as per a decision of the home ministry, said an official of Prison Headquarters.
Six prisoners will be released from Cumilla district jail, two each from Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and Khulna, while the other five will be released from five other jails, the official said, requesting anonymity.
Earlier this month, the government released 2,884 prisoners from different jails across the country as part of the planning to ease accommodation crisis and minimise the risk of Covid-19 spread in the crowded prisons.
