Elephant tosses driver onto road for Tk 10
An elephant tossed a battery-run easy-bike driver onto road with its trunk as the latter refused to pay it money.
The incident took place on a road at Agorpur Uttarpara village in Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj on Tuesday.
Critically injured Abdul Baten, 45, of Agorpur village, is now undergoing treatment at Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in the district.
Police and locals said when the elephant was used to collect extortion money from people in the area on Tuesday noon.
The elephant waylaid Baten’s easy bike and demanded money. Baten gave Tk 5 but it refused to receive the amount.
At the time, mahout Enamul Haque, 15, said the elephant did not receive less than Tk 10. The elephant was continuing pressure over Baten for its desired money.
As Baten locked in an altercation with the mahout over the matter, the elephant got angry and picked up Baten from the vehicle and tossed him onto road with its trunk for several times. The injured was later sent to the hospital.
Police arrested Enamul.
The victim’s wife Bakula Begum lodged a case with local police station accusing the mahout and one Kajal Mia yesterday.
