Elderly man held for raping 9yr-old in Khulna

A septuagenarian has been arrested for raping a nine-year-old girl in Khulna’s Rupsha upazila.

The arrestee is Shamsu Mallik, 75, hailing from Rupsha upazila, a local correspondent reports.

Rupsha Police Station Sub-Inspector Harunur Rashid told The Daily Star, Shamsu lured the minor girl with food and raped her on June 1 and later threatened her to keep mum.

Yesterday, Shamsu again tried to force himself on the girl, said IO. Hearing her screams, locals rush to spot and caught him. He was handed over to police.

A lawsuit has been filed against Shamsu by the victim’s mother.

Currently, the victim has been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment.
