‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a “gunfight” with members of Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early today.

The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.

Based on information that a group of smugglers were entering Bangladesh from Myanmar with a consignment of Yaba, a BGB team conducted a drive in Hlila Jadimura border area on the bank of Naf River, said Lt Col Md Faisal Hasan Khan, BGB commanding officer of Teknaf-2.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the “drug traders” opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate, triggering a “gunfight”, claimed the BGB official.

Later, police recovered a bullet-hit body from the spot, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.

The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Teknaf Police Station in this connection.

A total of 50,000 yaba pills and a locally made gun were also recovered from the scene.
