‘Drug peddler’ killed in Meherpur ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in what police claimed a gunfight between two groups of drug peddlers in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district early today.
The deceased was identified as Shajahan Ali Saju, 35, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting Harendranath Sarker, officer-in-charge of Mujibnagar Police Station.
Shajahan Ali Saju was a listed drug peddler in the area.
Acting on a tip-off that the drug peddlers locked into a “gunfight” at Kazipur village in the upazila, a team of police from Pirtola police outpost led by Sub-inspector Ajoy Das raided the area around 3:30am, the OC said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals fled the scene.
Police later found the bullet-hit body of Saju, the police official said.
They also recovered a gun, three bullets and 2kg cannabis.
