‘Drug dealer’ killed in Joypurhat gunfight: Rab
An alleged drug dealer was killed in a gunfight with a member of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat early today.
Two members of Rab have also been injured.
The deceased was Rabiul Islam Mintu (40), son of Abdul Jalil of Uttar Gopalpur village under Joypurhat Sadar Upazila, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.
He had been accused in 19 cases filed with different police stations.
According to the Rab officials in Joypurhat, a team was conducting an anti-drug raid near Sluicegate at Ratanpur village under Panchbibi upazila at around 3:30 am today. As they arrived there, a "drug dealer gang" fired bullets on the Rab men, leaving two injured.
In retaliation, the Rab men fired bullets.
After taking the situation under control, Rab members found Mintu lying there while other members of the gang fled.
The body was sent to Joypurhat Modern Hospital for autopsy.
Two pistols, a one-shooter gun, 8 round of bullets, two magazines, 200 pieces of yaba pills and 502 bottles of Phensidyl were recovered from the spot.
Mohaimenur Rashid, an Additional SP and Commanding Officer of JoypurhatRab, said that Mintu had been accused in 19 cases including drug peddling, abduction and attacking BGB members.
