Death of 2 Students in Road Crash: Fellows demand road safety
Students of different Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) in Tangail took to the town streets on Monday in solidarity with the deaths of their two fellows in a road accident on Sunday and demanding safe road.
Wearing black badges, several hundred students of different government and non-government institutions brought out a procession from Tangail General Hospital area around 11:00am that paraded different streets in the town.
Later, they formed a human chain in front of Tangail Press Club.
Protesting the deaths of two diploma internees at Tangail General Hospital, speakers at the rally said, nowadays, many having no institutional training are engaged in professional driving which is causing fatal road accidents often.
They also demanded arrest and capital punishment of the bus driver responsible for the deaths of their two fellows.
Meanwhile, police from Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station arrested the culprit bus driver Shahinul Islam, 25, from Gaibandha's Gobindaganj upazila early yesterday.
Mentionable, two diploma internee doctors -- Mayeen Uddin Hameem Turjya, 25, of Laxmipur Sadar upazila, and Sadia Islam Nodi, 26, of Gazipur's Kapasia upazila -- went on a tour at the east end of Bangabandhu Bridge on Sunday, when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus hit them while they were crossing the highway in Bhuapur upazila around 5:00pm, leaving them dead.
