Dam collapses in Brahmanbaria; 60 acres of crop land submerged
About 60 acres of crop land in Sohagpur village has been submerged as a dam on a canal collapsed in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria today.
The dam was built on the canal for the construction work of Ashuganj-Akhaura-Agartala four lane road, our local correspondent reports.
Some ponds and water bodies in the village were also flooded due to the dam collapse.
Arabinda Biswas, Ashuganj upazila nirbahi officer, said the cross dam collapsed following excessive flow of water released from Ashuganj Power Station Company around noon today.
The UNO also said that Ashuganj Power Station Company released water as per the demand of nearby Sarail village farmers who have been suffering from shortage of water. The dam collapsed in the middle of the canal, he added.
The farmers whose crop lands were submerged in Sohagpur village will get compensation from the government, the UNO assured.
