Court orders freezing of 2 bank accounts of suspended DIG prisons Rashid
A Dhaka court today ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to freeze two bank accounts of suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid, in connection with a case filed for amassing Tk 3.08 crore beyond known sources of income.
The court also ordered theconfiscation of 108.50 decimal of property situated in Jamalpur district and a 2,981 square feet flat at Siddheshwari in the capital belonging to Bazlur.
Judge Md Iqbal Hosaain of the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka passed the order after ACC Deputy Director Md Nasir Uddin, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition today.
Before that, the judge rejected a bail petition of Rashid after his lawyer moved it before the court. The judge also fixed October 22 for hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case.
Earlier on August 26, the ACC submitted the charge sheet of the case to the Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka.
The ACC arrested Rashid in the case -- filed with ACC's Integrated District Office-1 of Dhaka -- and showed him arrested in the case on October 20 last year.
The following day, the home ministry suspended him from service.
According to the case statement, Rashid signed a contract with a real estate company in 2018 to buy a flat in the capital's Siddheshwari Road area at Tk 3.09 crore.
Through April 20, 2018 to June 7, 2018,Bazlur paid Tk 3.08 crore in cash and cheque, but during the ACC officials' interrogation, he could not show any legal source of the money.
