Cops seize 630kg relief rice from Ctg warehouses

Police have seized 21 sacks of rice weighing 630 kilogrammes and another 2,000 empty sacks from two warehouses in Chattogram city.

A case was lodged with Double Mooring Police Station in this connection last night against Md Faruk, owner of the two warehouses trading under the company Faruk Trading, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Inspector (Investigation) Jahir Hossain of the station.

Earlier yesterday evening, a police team conducted raids at the two warehouses in Eidgah kitchen market area and in Sagorika under Pahartali area and seized the rice and empty sacks, Assistant Commissioner (Double Mooring Zone) Shrima Chakma, who led the drive, told The Daily Star.

"Tipped off, we raided the warehouse at Eidgah kitchen market and recovered 21 sacks of rice and 1,500 empty sacks from the warehouse. Each sack contains 30kg rice," the assistant commissioner said.

"The sacks bore the seal of the food department, which means this rice is not for sale," AC Shrima also said.

"Later the other warehouse owned by the same person was also raided and another 500 empty sacks were recovered from it," the police official said.

No one has been arrested in this connection yet, Inspector Jahir said, adding that police are investigating the matter.
