The University Grants Commission has urged all universities to continue their academic activities online during closure of higher educational institutions due to the coronavirus outbreak.

"Teachers are encouraged to take online classes so that the academic activities of the students are not hampered," the commission said in a letter to all public and private universities today.

For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel.

The commission suggested the university authorities to use Zoom Application and facilities of the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) for the purpose.

The facilities of Zoom Application and BdREN can be availed free of cost, the UGC letter read.

The commission also urged all teachers to contact BdREN for all kinds of support, adding that it will remain open round the clock.

Students will be able to connect with teachers online using desktops, laptops and smart phones.

It has been seen across the globe that online education is a time-befitting decision to continue education while facing coronavirus, the UGC letter added.
