Committee recommends 80 percent increase in bus fare
A special committee to reset bus fare today recommended an 80 percent increase in bus fare, a member of the committee told The Daily Star.
"The recommendation would be sent to the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry for approval," he said wishing not to be named.
The committee led by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) held the meeting at BRTA head office in the capital.
Yesterday, bus owners demanded to double the bus fare as they have to carry limited number of passengers.
The transport owners have already decided to operate buses from Monday, maintaining all health guidelines. The decision came at a meeting with transport leaders and other stakeholders at BRTA headquarters yesterday.
The operation of road transport came to a halt across the country after the government announced closure of all offices and schools from March 26 in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
