College boy, trader murdered
A college boy and a trader were murdered in Mymensingh and Gaibandha yesterday, report our correspondents.
A college student was stabbed to death at Char Bhelamari village in Mymensingh’s Nandail upazila.
The victim was Tarif Hasan Hridoy, 19, son of Mujibur Rahman of the village, and a second year student of Khorrom Khan Chowdhury College in the upazila.
Quoting family members, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nandail Police Station Kamrul Islam Miah said a mobile set was stolen from Hridoy’s house some five months ago.
Later, Hridoy learnt that his cousin Elias Uddin, 20, gifted the mobile set to his girlfriend.
Tactfully Hridoy bought the mobile set from the girl at Tk 7,000. Later, a row took place between the two families over the incident.
Informed by locals, police recovered the body from under a bridge of the village around 1:00am yesterday and sent it to Kishoreganj General Hospital for autopsy, said the OC, adding that the body bore stab injury marks.
Police arrested Shaheen Mia, 19, a garment worker, and Bablu Mia, 24, a day labourer of the same village, in connection with the killing.
The victim’s elder brother Mazharul Islam lodged a murder case accusing six people. Elias Uddin was named as the prime suspect.
The college student might have been killed following previous enmity over the mobile set, said the police official, adding that they are raiding different areas to arrest the accused.
In Gaibandha, a cloth trader was shot dead at Majed Chairman road in Sadullapur upazila of the district early in the morning.
The dead was Budha Mia, 50, son of Kafiluddin of Dari Jamalpur village in the upazila.
Police said when Budha Mia was opening shutter of his cloth shop, criminals shot him from point blank range.
Critically injured Budha Mia later died on way to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, said Mostafizur Rahman, OC of Sadullapur Police Station.
The body was sent to Gaibandha Hospital for autopsy, said the police official, adding that they are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits.
