Class boycott continues for third consecutive day
Students of Sheikh Hasina Medical College (SHMC) in Jamalpur continued boycotting classes for the third consecutive day yesterday, demanding arrest of people responsible for injuring two fellow students on February 28.
Their other demands include safety of SHMC students on and off the institution's temporary campus set up at Jamalpur General Hospital.
Around 9:30pm on February 28, Imran Hasan Moni and Rakibul Hasan, students of first-batch (2014-2015 session) at the medical college, were injured when a group of locals led by Bipul and Sumon assaulted them near the entrance of the medical college over trivial matter.
Soon after the incident, students of the college filed a complaint with Sadar Police Station and issued an ultimatum to the authorities concerned, declaring that they would boycott their classes unless the attackers are arrested immediately.
The SHMC students started boycotting their classes from March 2 as law enforcers failed to arrest the assailants by March 1, said agitating students at a human chain formed on the college campus yesterday morning.
Demanding safety for all SHMC students, especially for female students who often fall prey to stalking by local youths, the students attending the human chain also vowed to continue their boycott until the attackers of their fellow students are brought to book.
