Chinese killed in clash at Patuakhali power plant

Two including a Chinese national have been killed in a clash at an under-construction power plant in Kolapara upazila of Patuakhali.

The clash centered the death of one Bangladeshi worker Swabindra Das yesterday afternoon, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

After hearing the death news of Swabindra, the other Bangladeshi workers charged at the Chinese workers, said Md Manirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kolapara Police Station.

“Then, the Chinese workers retaliated, triggering a clash. Five Chinese nationals were injured,” he said.

Among the injured, Jang Yang Khang was initially rushed to Kolapara Upazila Health Complex and later to Patuakhali General Hospital.

Later, he was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where he died, said Leau Si, project manager of the power plant.

Jang Yang Khang died of excessive bleeding due to the injury in his head, said Bakir Hossain, director of the Barishal medical college.

Also, the four other injured Chinese nationals were being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital last reported, Leu Si said.
