UP chairman sued over irregularities in distributing VGF, GR funds
A union parishad chairman was sued today for irregularities of distributing money under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) and General Relief (GR) programmes at Thakurgaon's Haripur upazila.
Naresh Chandra Barman, office assistant and computer operator of upazila project implementation office, filed the case with Haripur Police Station against Dangipara union parishad Chairman Md Moniruzzaman as per instructions of superior upazila administration officials.
Officer-in-charge of Haripur Police Station Awrangajeb confirmed that the case had been filed.
According to the case statement, a total of 1,478 beneficiaries were supposed to get Tk 450 each under the VGF programme and 555 beneficiaries were supposed to get Tk 500 each under the GR programme before Eid-ul-Fitr.
But 328 beneficiaries alleged that they did not get the allocated amount.
The aggrieved beneficiaries went to the upazila nirbahi officer's office on May 16 and filed a complaint with UNO Abdul Karim in this regard.
The UNO organised a mass hearing at Dangipara union parishad complex where the deprived beneficiaries reiterated their complaints before the officials and upazila chairman.
As the allegations were primarily proved, the UNO instructed upazila PIO to file a case.
Contacted, Chairman Moniruzzaman denied the allegation of embezzling VGF and GR money saying that it is a conspiracy to tarnish his image
