UP chairman gets threat
A union parishad (UP) chairman continued receiving threat from a section of local influential people since he foiled an early marriage bid at Ketkibari village in Hatibandha upazila of the district on August 19.
Nawdabash UP Chairman Ashwini Kumar Basuniya on Saturday filed a complaint with Hatibandha Police Station, accusing five people, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Omar Farooque of the police station.
The accused are Sohanur Rahman Sohel, Rafiqul Islam, Mintu Miah, Tarif Uddin and Jabed Ali of the village.
The chairman said on information, he went to the village on August 19 and foiled a child marriage bid with the help of local UP members and village police. At that time, some local influential people directly threatened him. Since then he continued receiving threat over phone.
He also informed the upazila nirbahi officer about the matter, said the chairman.
UP member Mohammad Ali Khoka said police remained silent in this regard and did not take any action against the accused due to unknown reason.
The OC said the complaint was recorded as general dairy, which was sent to the court for prosecution under the Act 506.
After getting the court’s order, they will take action against the accused, said the police official.
