Businessman Murder: Five people sentenced to life term imprisonment in Pabna
A court here yesterday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment for killing a businessman at Kumargari village in Ataikula upazila under the district in 2009.
The convicts are Abdus Salam alias Khokon, 50, and Shahin Biswas, 44, of Kumargari village, and Masud Rana, 45 of Bhariadangi village in Sadar upazila and Shukur Ali Mollah, 45, and Saiful Islam alias Kanchan, 43, of Tantiband village in Sujanagar upazila.
Two accused were acquitted from the case as the charge brought against them could not be proved. They are Selim Uddin, 40, and Altaf Hossain, 45, of Bhabanipur village in Sujanagar.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Rustom Ali also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each, in default, they are to suffer another six months in jail.
According to the prosecution, a gang of abductors killed businessman Abu Sayeed on April 13 in 2009.
Later, the victim's brother filed a case with Ataikula Police Station, accusing seven people.
After investigation, Sub-Inspector Akher Ali of the police station submitted charge sheet against the seven on February 28, 2010.
After examining witnesses and evidence, the judge found the five people guilty and pronounced the verdict.
