BSF allegedly shoots dead Bangladeshi cattle trader
A Bangladeshi cattle trader was allegedly shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Nitpur border under Porsha upazila in Naogaon this morning.
The incident took place on the Indian side of the border.
Taizul Islam, chairman of Tetulia Union Parishad of Porsha Upazila, claimed that the victim was one Nirmal, son of Bhulu Roy of Turipara village in the union.
According to locals, a group of cattle traders from the area went to India on Sunday night to buy cattle illegally.
BSF members of the Agrabad-159 camp inside the Malda district of India, one kilometre from Pillar No 228 on the Nitpur border, fired on them while they were returning and Nirmal was shot. The others managed to return, Taizul claimed.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-18 Naogaon Battalion Commander Lt Colonel Ariful Islam, however, said, "I have heard that one person was killed in BSF firing inside India. We do not know whether the deceased was a Bangladeshi or an Indian. The BSF has not yet been called for a flag meeting over the issue. They will be contacted only after receiving a complaint from the family of the deceased."
