Bid to trap social worker with Yaba
An innocent man has been saved from a heinous attempt to trap him with Yaba, thanks to the prompt investigation by police.
The victim, Ziaur Rahman Zia, 44, of Toiltupi village in Kushtia Sadar upazila, runs a brick kiln named AZW bricks near his home.
He is known in the area as an honest and benevolent person involved in various social works.
However, locals witnessed a perplexing scene on Monday afternoon when a team of Jhaudia police camp led by Sub-Inspector MI Azam recovered 30 pieces of Yaba hidden underneath the oil tank of Zia's motorcycle at Kashinathpur Bridge intersection.
Keeping his motorbike beside, Zia was talking with a few people that time.
Police arrested Zia and took him to Islamic University (IU) Police Station.
A number of people rushed to the police station on the night where Zia was being quizzed.
They demanded proper investigation of the matter.
Officer-In-Charge (OC) of the police station Ratan Ali Sheikh started a special investigation into the matter.
“Hearing about the recovery of Yaba from Zia's motorbike, I got suspicious and decided to unearth the fact. We asked different sources in the area and arrested Rohidul Islam of Charpara village, who works as a police source,” he said.
“Zia had business rivalry with Dulal Uddin, another brick kiln owner of the area. Dulal contacted Rohidul to entrap Zia with drugs. Dulal's nephew Robiul was also involved for the purpose.
“They put the Yaba on Zia's motorcycle after Zia landed his bike at Kashinathpur Bridge intersection on Monday afternoon. Then Rohidul informed police,” the OC said.
The next day, police arrested Rohidul and he admitted to doing the conspiracy in exchange of money.
Police filed a case against Dulal, Robiul and Rohidul with IU Police Station.
The same day, Rohidul was produced before Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent him to jail.
