Bhola-Laxmipur ferry service resumes

After two days of frantic effort, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) started Bhola-Laxmipur Ferry service again on Wednesday.

Abu Alam, finance manager of Bhola-Laxmipur ferry service, said a BIWTA team led by Joint Director Shahazal Hoque arrived at Elisha Ferry Terminal in Rajapur under Sadar upazila on Tuesday night and replaced the old gangway at around 10:00am on Wednesday. Ferry service on the route resumed at around 11:00am on the day, he added.

During Monday's storm, the gangway at the ferry terminal became detached from the land because of unusual pressure of water in the Meghna River from upstream.

According to Shihab Uddin, assistant manager of Bhola-Laxmipur ferry service, the gangway that connected the pontoon with the main land got detached at around 10:00am.
