BGB destroys Tk 8-crore drugs in C'nawabganj
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) destroyed a large quantity of seized drugs worth Tk 8 crore from Chapainawabganj while Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) busted a Phensidyl factory in Cumilla yesterday, report our correspondents.
The border guards have recently seized 54,232 bottles and seven litres of Phensidyl, 22 kg and 390 grams of heroin, 2,539 bottles and 130 litres of liquor, 14.2 kg of cannabis, 27,502 yaba pills, 369 sedative tablets and 1,645 ampoules of sedative injections from different areas in Chapainawabganj, said Lt Col Sajjad Sarwar, commanding officer of BGB 53 Battalion.
Yesterday, the drugs were destroyed in presence of BGB officials and the district administration, he said.
Col Mushfiqur Rahman Masum, sector commander of BGB in Rajshahi, AZM Nurul Haque, deputy commissioner, TM Mojahidul Islam, superintendent of police, Lt Col Sajjad, commanding officer (CO) of BGB 53 Battalion, and Lt Col SM Salahuddin, CO of BGB 59 Battalion.
Meanwhile, Rab busted a Phensidyl factory in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla and arrested a man in this connection.
The arrestee is Shamim Ahmmed Asru, 35, son of Shah Alam Farazee of Boronkora Uttarpara in the upazila.
Shamim has been involved in manufacturing drugs for long, said Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Billal Hossain of Rab-2.
Tipped-off, the elite force raided Shamim's poultry farm and seized fine sugar, sugar syrup and spirit used for manufacturing Phensidyl.
