Bean brings smile to Faridpur farmers
Good yield and fair price have brought smile to bean farmers in Sadarpur upazila of the district.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Bidhan Roy said about 90 hectares of land have been brought under bean cultivation due to favourable weather in the area this year.
The growers have cultivated mainly two varieties of bean -- BARI-4 and IPSA-1-- in the upazila, said Bidhan Roy.
Farmer Alam Baparry of Shaildubi village said he cultivated bean on 20 decimals of land spending Tk 6,000 and got Tk 25,000 profit last year.
“I have cultivated bean on 65 decimals of land spending Tk 20,000 this season. I am expecting better price than last year,” he said.
Another farmer Abdul Malek Morol of Karirhat village said he cultivated bean on 33 decimals of land this year spending Tk 9,000.
“I have already sold bean for Tk 9,000 within 15 days and hope that I shall get profit Tk 20,000 this time,” he said.
Jonayat Ali of Charbishnopur village said he cultivated bean on 33 decimals of land this year and sold the vegetable at Tk15 to Tk 20 per kilogram, which was Tk 10 to Tk 12 last year.
Bean traders from different areas come to the upazila to buy bean every day, he said.
Grower Abdur Razzak Karim of Charnasirpur village said they can collect bean after 45 days during cultivation. Many farmers of their area got solvency by cultivating bean.
