Bandarban puts bar on foreign tourists in peak season
Local authorities have decided to impose temporary restriction on tourism in popular destination Bandarban due to the upcoming general election.
Restriction has been placed on foreigners entering Bandarban from December 20 to January 6, our local correspondent reports.
Md Daudul Islam, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, told The Daily Star the decision has been taken to avoid “any untoward incident”.
“We want to advise foreigners not to visit Bandarban during this time our law enforcement agencies will be busy in election duty,” he added.
Md Sirajul Islam, secretary of local residential hotel owners’ association, told The Daily Star that this is the peak season of tourism in the district.
“Such a decision without any discussion will surely hurt the tourism business,” he said.
