62-year-old killed over land dispute

A 62-year-old man was killed and at least 12 people were injured in a clash over a land dispute at Ankhitara village in Sarail upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Harun Chowdhury, son of Malek Chowdhury of the village.

Locals said Sohel Rana and his rival Hamid Miah have been fighting a legal battle against each other over a land.

As a sequel, the two families clashed with each other in a paddy field. Supporters of both the groups, equipped with spears and other weapons, fought at the field, witnesses said.

Sarail police brought the situation under control.

Seriously injured Harun died at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, said Officer-in-Charge (investigation) of Sarail Police Station Nurul Haque.

The injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital and at different private clinics.
