6 missing as boat capsizes in Jamuna
Six people went missing after a boat with 30 passengers on board capsized in the Jamuna river in Dewanganj upazila on Wednesday night.
Divers from nearby fire station with the help of locals rescued 24 people from different spot till yesterday afternoon while the rest six remained missing as of 3:00pm yesterday.
The accident occurred about three kilometres from Futanibazar Ghat when 30 flood affected victims of Charhalka Habrabari and Tinerchar villages were returning their respective homes by a boat after receiving VGF rice from Chukaibari union parishad (UP) premises around 8:45pm.
Of the victims, 24 were rescued alive from the river, Officer in Charge of Dewanganj Police Station Mainul Hossain said.
The six missing victims are Mannan, 65, son of late Shawkat Ali, Shaheed Shikdar, 44, son of late Dirbar Shikdar, Kanchanmala, 45, wife of Fazal Haque, Rezia Khatun, 40, wife of late Mazibar, Dulal, 30, son of Taiyab Ali, and Akon Begum, 65, wife of Sakamol. They all hail from Charhalka Habrabari village, the OC quoted Chukaibari UP Chairman Salim Miah as saying.
