480 ducks killed by poison traps
Around 480 reared ducks died after falling prey to 'poison traps' set allegedly by a local bird poacher at Shahpur village in Juri upazila on Tuesday.
Samor Ali, owner of the ducks, filed a case with Juri Police Station yesterday accusing Jubel Mia of the area.
With the arrival of winter, local bird hunters become active as the migratory birds start coming to the haor areas during this time of the year, he said.
“My 480 ducks died after taking food mixed with poison at a nearby field,” Samor said, adding that Jubel, who sold two migratory birds yesterday, has been hunting such birds for long.
Jubel's father Tojomul Ali said locals were falsely blaming his son and they were trying to settle the issue locally.
