5 killed in Cox’s Bazar road crashes
Five persons were killed and six were injured in two separate road accidents in Chakaria and Ukhiya upazilas of Cox’s Bazar last night.
In Chakaria, four persons were killed and one was injured as a Dhaka-bound bus overturned and fell into a road-side ditch on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway, reports our Cox’s Bazar Correspondent quoting police.
The deceased are: Jharna Begum (35) of Hatia upazila, Abu Sufian (38) of Sonaimuri upazila and Md Moniruzzaman (26) of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district and Sajed Ullah (26) of Chandnaish upazila of Chattogram.
The incident took place near Chiringa Highway Police Outpost on the highway around 10:30pm when the bus of Star Line Paribahan lost control and overturned before falling in the road-side ditch, leaving three males and one female dead on the spot and one injured, said Md Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station.
Policemen and fire service officials recovered the bodies and rescued the injured and other passengers of the bus, he said. The injured was rushed to upazila health complex for treatment, the OC said.
In Ukhiya, a woman was killed and five others were injured in a road accident involving an autorickshaw and an easy-bike.
The incident took place in front of Ratnapalong Union Parishad office in the upazila around 6:30pm when a Bhalukiya-bound autorickshaw collided with an easy-bike coming from the opposite direction, leaving the woman dead on the spot and five others injured, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent quoting witnesses.
The deceased was identified as Usha Barua, 38, wife of Amulyo Barua of Bhalukiya, said her son Munna.
The injured were rushed to local hospital for treatment. Their identities could not be known immediately.
