39 jailed for defying ban on hilsa catching
At least 39 fishermen were jailed yesterday by mobile courts for defying ban on hilsa catching in Faridpur and Rajbari.
A mobile court jailed 20 fishermen in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur for defying the ongoing temporary ban on catching hilsa.
The mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate Afrose Shahin sentenced 20 fishermen to 20 days imprisonment under the Protection and Conservation of Fish Act, 1950.
The mobile court also seized 80,000 metres of fishing nets and 70 kilogram of hilsa from different places in the Padma and Arial Kha rivers in Sadarpur upazila.
Meanwhile, another mobile court jailed 19 fishermen for defying the ongoing temporary ban on hilsa fishing in Goalando upazila of Rajbari yesterday.
The mobile court, led by Goalando Upazila Nibahi Officer Rubayet Hayat, sentenced 19 fishermen to 10-days imprisonment under the Protection and Conservation of Fish Act, 1950.
The mobile court also seized one lakh metres of fishing nets, nine fishing boats and 90 kilogram of hilsa from different places in the Padma river in Goalando upazila of Rajbari.
