35 injured in clash
At least 35 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Markuli village in Sunamganj's Shalla upazila on Wednesday.
Of them, six were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, eight to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital and 10 to the upazila health complex while the rest given first aid.
Police and locals said a group, led by Tajel Mia, 35, son of Kacha Mia, and another group, led by Khalek Mia, 45, son of Darbesh Mia, over setting up an electric pillar in the area on Wednesday night.
At one stage, both the rival groups chased each other with sharp weapons, leaving at least 35 people from both sides injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, said Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shalla Police Station.
Police have been deployed in the area, said the OC.
