35 hurt by highway robbers
A gang of robbers looted money and valuables from passengers after halting buses in BTRI area on Sreemangal-Lawacherra road in Sreemangal upazila early yesterday.
Thirty five people were injured by the robbers.
"The gang stopped several buses, beat up passengers and robbed them. A few employees of our resort were also robbed while they were travelling on an auto-rickshaw," said Md Mahmudul Islam, an official of Grand Sultan Tea Resort and Golf.
"Equipped with arms, machetes and sticks, the gang comprising around 30 robbers halted traffic by placing logs. They robbed at least 10 vehicles and fled when police arrived, said Sreemangal Police Station OC KM Nazrul Islam.
Fifteen of the injured were admitted to Sreemangal Health Complex and the others took treatment at different clinics, he added.
