Immigration police arrested three Rohingya youths and two alleged traffickers from the check post area of Benapole land port while they were going to India yesterday.
According to the Bangladeshi passports seized from their possession, the arrestees are Sarwar Islam, 25, and Marjan Begum, 19, son and daughter of Rafiqul Islam of Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj, and Qaium Khan, 27, son of Zaman Khan of Kadamtali in Dhaka.
“Sarwar, Marjan and Qaium are Rohingyas sheltered at a camp in Cox’s Bazar. Brokers Zaman Khan and Rafiqul Islam were trafficking them to India in exchange of huge amount after tempting them with assurance of good jobs in India,” said Abul Bashar, officer in charge of Benapole Check Post Immigration.
