25 campaign offices of AL in one union!
Around 25 election campaign offices have been built in one union under Madaridpur-2 (Rajoir upazila and a portion of Sadar upazila) constituency, allegedly by the Awami League (AL) candidate, violating electoral code of conduct.
Locals said there are 16,915 voters in 21 villages under Amgram union of Rajoir upazila, but AL activists have built 25 election campaign offices in the union to run AL election campaign.
According to the electoral code of conduct, a candidate can have only one election campaign office in a union.
“Shajahan Khan has built at least 10 election campaign offices in each union in this constituency. He has 25 election campaign offices in Amgram union but I could not build a single election campaign office here due to obstructions. I told the returning officer (RO) that Shajahan Khan violated the electoral code of conduct but the RO has not taken any step yet,” said Milton Baidya, Bangladesh National Party (BNP) candidate from Madaripur-2.
“We have only one election campaign office in Amgram union, but our supporters drink tea together at some places,” said Motalab Mia, president of Rajoir upazila unit of AL.
“We regularly send our magistrate to visit the election area, but we have not got any complaint from anyone,” said Md Wahidul Islam, returning officer of Madaripur.
