Twenty-four Bangladeshi youths today returned home through Benapole border after serving two and half years in an Indian jail.

Indian police handed them over to Bangladesh’s Immigration Police today, our Benapole correspondent reports quoting police sources.

The returnees hail from Narail, Barisal and Bagerhat districts.

They had illegally entered India territory three years ago through Jessore, said Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Immigration Police at Benapole.

Indian police arrested them from Bangalore city. A case was filed against them and an Indian court sentenced them to two and half years’ imprisonment each.

The Indian government returned them following exchange of several letters between home ministries of two countries.
