2 ‘yaba peddlers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar 'gunfight'

Two alleged yaba peddlers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with rival group today in Cox's Bazar.

The deceased were identified as Mostak Mia, 35, and his brother Moktar Mia, 32, sons of Zebur Mulok from Ukhia upazila of the district, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.

The incident took place at Marine Drive point of Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway when the drug peddlers started the gunfight over share of money that they acquired by yaba dealing, Nurul Islam, inspector of Ukhia Police Station, told The Daily Star.

On information police conducted a drive there, the inspector said, adding that sensing the presence of law enforcers the other drug peddlers left the spot leaving the duo wounded by gunshots.

They were rushed to Ukhia Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared them dead, he said.

One LG rifle, four rounds of cartridges and 9,600 yaba pills were recovered from the spot, the police official added.

Their bodies are sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The brothers were allegedly smuggling yaba pills for a long time using the highway.
